A new musk is in the air. Coffee musk no not really. Woody musk not quite their either. Ambergris oceanic musk, no a lot more than that. Let's combine all three add some strong Oriental in the form of cinnamon heavy with a bite of Barnyard olfactoryness in the background. Off the top the ambergris floats the Luwak notes into a projection you want to be in the mood for. But if you are it brings your personality to it's best place. Yeah this is mood or should I say moudh fragrance. Middle the oud gets hidden the Barnyard that was there at first. The musk floats with a little sweetness a toasted vanilla. The whiff is medicinal in nature. A dark cinnamon hangs around not a cinnamon you grew up with but a fresh bark of cinnamon that is at it's peak of flavor. Notes: Yes you do have to be careful with this one, you can definitely offend people with this one. As it wears on the our in the background comes back to o play some notes and add to this newly defined heavy musk. There is almost a synthetic boosting the ambergris that's a total guess I haven't invested in a machine that will break down all of the ingredients scientifically. I do want to I love knowing what is in these things. Whatever Russian Adam did here he needs to keep taking forward and refining. He's beginning to have one of those sought after house dnas and this is far and above any other DNA out there. Yes a very bold statement, but this is a very good scent. I really hope he tones down the synthetic or whatever ingredient pops when your skin heats up. A dry ambergris with smoked coffee a very clean oceanic smoke.

Great review! But why just 3.5/5 at the end? I thought the score will be much higher, having in mind how you described it.. Still OL is very high on my wish list, and too bad I've missed ALD's previous oud releases. Enjoy your RO attar!
Thanks for noticing I am very very picky when we go up to 4 to 5 (these are very special fragrances). I am introducing a new scoring system to reflect better than just 1-5. I have put quite a bit of thought into it. Just need to get videos shot, but I have three that I have scored with the system that should be best hero on out.

As far as reviews I have on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw2Fv9hn00Q the Les Annees 25 is a five star. And I would definitely score the Fragrance Du bois a 4 and Malik Al taif a 4. Oud Luwak is a great fragrance, but like I said in the video I hope Russian Adam continues to finesse the Accord that he has, parts of Luwak felt too strong at times and not blended enough. The ingredients are superb and unique and for that reason I am happy to have it on the shelf.

I wore Romanza a few days ago, it’s got a quality jasmine note but I’m still warming up to wearing jasmine in general.
Tonight I’m sampling Salome by Papillon again, another jasmine rich fragrance with a few more things going on. Reminds me of a 90’s head shop in the best way.
Really agree with sampling with an atomizer being far superior to a dabber. I wish websites offer that option for a premium if they like.
I don’t think I’m much of an Oud fan but I’m still intrigued by ALD’s latest 4. Guess I better make up my mind if I want samples because I know they won’t last long
I was wearing Romanza to review. It's definitely a dark patchouli. I really couldn't pick up the civet note in it. I have four papillon samples staring at me. Can't wait to get into that house. Have you tried others from Papillon.
Just Salome and Dryad so far though samples of Tobacco Rose and Anubis should be delivered tomorrow or Saturday. This winter I’ve enjoyed exploring vintage style Chypres, a little floral a little skank and Salome has been one the best I’ve sampled. Dyrad i need to spend more time with but it is a quality juice.
Out of the 4 recent ALD’s which would be the one you’d recommend trying before their gone?
This was my first Russian Adam purchase – and I do love it. Now that a year has gone by, do you still reach for Oud Luwak? Has your thinking changed about it since this review? Another terrific review!
Hey Shannon, I put this in my fall list and stated there that this was the first fragrance I craved on the first cold fall morning where you could tell everything had turned. Having Russian Oud this is just a little louder on the projection side where the latter I feel is just perfectly balanced. Cool story I was showing off Areej in a old perfume shop here in Portland. They have a twenty one year old girl who was raised around fragrances. I brought this to show the older man, but she ended up falling in love with this. My mind was blown I wish I could of gotten it on film. I appreciate owning it overall.
